Elandreth Filarion leaves Methedra Vale with his griffon to journey to Silverymoon in the south and to learn of mythal magic to save his people.
bitten by a terribly poisonous spider and encountering a feral druid-wolf, Elandreth ponders to the omens of what is to come
Attacked by Arauthator, Old White Fang, Lyra and Elan hide in the ruins of an ancient city of giants, long abandoned. There they meet an elder spirit and gain a friend, in the giant horse Raveneye. Treasure (of a sort) is found and the wagon is loaded. Later, Elandreth falls in love with a water spirit named Niadne. She bears him a son and he gives to her the Filarion ring. They stay together for almost a year, and she insists that he leave to continue the journey south.
