Dalwin is rarely called by his given name. In most circles, he’s referred to as the ‘Scanty Rascal’ or his chosen alias, Gus. Born a natural prankster in Niskantel in 1109, he grew up in a large halfling family. As the youngest, he often got away with tricks blaming it on his older siblings, and his parents exhausted from raising so many before, paid little attention to his exploits. When he came of age, his family saw no great gifts in him, for farming, raising animals, tanning hide, carpentry, or any other skill they found useful. What they didn’t know is that he’d spent the majority of his childhood picking locks and thieving from neighbors, selling his finds at local outdoor markets. And once, at age 7 he attempted to break into the home of a world-renowned thief (living under an assumed alias) and found himself caught in a cage. Dalwin, terrified, cried out for his mother, but he was miles from home, and when the gnome owner of the house came out to find a tiny halfling child caught in his trap, he laughed. He introduced himself to Dalwin as Augustus Fairmore, but his friends called him Gus. Gus let Dalwin out of his trap, and brought him into the house. Throughout the course of the afternoon, it came out that Gus had been a thief in a former life by the name of ‘The Invisible Agent’, but in his later years, he’d decided to settle down and retire on his own on the outskirts of Niskantel. He missed the life of a thief, but with the spoils he’d gained from his exploits, he’d retired quite comfortably. Dalwin, enthralled by the life story of this legendary gnome, asked if he could come back and visit again. For years, Dalwin visited Gus, at first listening to stories, and later learning the tricks of the trade. This much older gnome had become his only mentor. At 17, Dalwin was the only person there to bury Gus after he died of a quick-moving illness. Gus had long lived under aliases and lost touch with any friends, so he left Dalwin everything he owned including his very special customized set of thievery tools and his name. Dalwin sold anything he couldn’t carry with him, and left his family who’d never paid much attention to him anyway, and joined the circus. With his new family he continued to hone his pickpocketing and lock-picking in town after town, and learned the aerial arts. As a tiny halfling, he could be thrown long distances, jump extremely high, and perform almost magical feats of acrobatics. At 22 he left the circus, tearfully saying goodbye to the only family he’d ever known, and went out on his own. It was only months before he came across the Mice Eyes Thieves Guild; they recognized his incredible talents almost immediately and asked him to join up. Without a second thought, he joined. Slowly, he became closer with the group within the Mice Eyes, known as the Dark Wings, and after a lengthy auditioning process was initiated into the elite group. He’s been with them ever since, traveling the world-over, using his talents to steal; killing only when necessary. Now, close friends call him Gus, only he knows it’s a tribute to his lost friend and mentor.
Dalwin, or Gus, if you prefer…

Posted in Orsolon on February 13, 2011 by coyoteandthunderArgaron grew up in a small farming section of Mirataun with his parents and 3 younger brothers, Olmeron, Asteron, and Bandon. Born of unusual height, even for a Minotaur, the 8′ 9″ Argaron seemed a perfect fit in the military. He joined a Birashetec Minotaur hoarde at 15. He rose the ranks quickly with supreme focus until he was the youngest sergeant of an army that worshiped Baphomet and indiscriminately destroyed those of all other races in Orsolon for military power. But when he was ordered to torture then kill a family of dwarves in Fahrib because they supposedly held information important to the Minotaur armies, he couldn’t. He felt like a pawn in their game of mindless destruction and finally wanted to think for himself. He left the army in secret and at age 23 traveled back to his hometown to live with his family for a while. He worked sowing the fields of his family farm and learned how to live peacefully. In that time, he found a love and got to know his 3 younger brothers better than he had before. He married a younger Minotaur woman (Klaris, 18 Argaron, 26) and they produced a son Garon. At 28, he grew bored with this peaceful lifestyle and when an old army friend came to his house asking him join in on an adventure, he couldn’t decline. He grabbed his executioner’s ax, and headed out, leaving his wife and son fully expecting to return home after only a few weeks. What he didn’t know when he left was that his wife was pregnant with a daughter. It has been 2 years since he’s seen his family and he misses them terribly, but circumstances keep him from making it home. Meanwhile, his wife Klaris struggles to support herself, Garon (now 4), and their 1 1/2 year old daughter, Larise that Argaron doesn’t even know about yet. Klaris is frustrated and angry with him for leaving, but misses her partner greatly and prays to Kord to return her husband safely. Nightly, Argaron prays for the safety of his family and his swift return home, though unfortunately, his work is not yet finished. Working with Alabashan, a captain of the true Mirataun army, not the hoardes, he hopes to destory the hoardes that plague their own people. He hopes that once his mission is complete, his wife and son will be so proud of him that they’ll forgive him for being away for so long.

Posted in Gavin Wel, The Mice Eyes on February 11, 2011 by coyoteandthunderThe Great War ended 25 years ago and nearly engulfed the world in fire. Gavin Wel was ruled by a great angelic being named the Hegemon, who left in the year 1111. The current year is 1136. The Mice Eyes, the largest and most involved Unionized Guild of entrepeneurial agents to ever exist on Dao Tyr, was and is centralized in GavinWel. The City of the Raven Queen had long turn a laxed eye toward the unsavory ends of many of the Mice Eyes’ means. Of late though, that attitude has changed in that its sovereign lord, Walder, the King of Thieves has gone missing and the company is in a continued state of chaos. The Raven guard has announced and edict against the Mice Eyes and
because of it the City’s economy has been in a continued recession for
the ten years that the King of Thieves has been unaccounted for. Most in the upper eschalon of the organization believe that Walder is gone forever. The Four splinter factions of the Mice Eyes war with one another for power and authority. Would that the Rod of Three Parts, otherwise known as Asiliogn, be found and reunited, the guild that held the rod might unite the factions and restore the glory of the Theives’ Guild.

Phaedra
Posted in Gavin Wel on February 11, 2011 by coyoteandthunderThe brilliant tiefling artifacer Phaedra who helped Gavin Wel by designing their navy in the years of the Great War before the end of the sixth age barely escaped with her life after the Reckoning at Sword Call. For many years there after she journeyed with her once and again lover Wolfdog, searching for Lethorian the Immoliant and then weeding out with the wrathful axe warrior, the last remnants of the Lisivith cult across the North. Her yacht is called “The Mourning Wing”.

Posted in Maiah, The Sherriff on February 9, 2011 by coyoteandthunderAolyn,
I wish I could have been there more as you grew up. I still deal everyday with your mother’s death and still curse the gods for taking your brother when he was not even a year old. Now that you are a woman, you remind me so much of your mother in both beauty and ferocity. I never wanted the life of an adventurer for you, all it ever meant for me was a life of anger and violence. Since it seems to be the life for which you are fated, I pray that you know great glory, but even more, I wish you love.
Aolin, know that I loved your mother more than myself. I have told you the story of her death many times before, but I will tell it again. It was a cold day in summer when the Dragongods returned and killed so many. The rat bastard Blendhavin and his nefarioius sons, lead by Lethorian, made a deal with your mother and her aunt Sarafina when they went looking into the shadowfel for the angel warrior Jael. His infernal boat, the Illyria, was to take her and bring her home. All we found was the necklace I gave her on our wedding day, the necklace she would never take off. As you know, we have never found the Illyria or its terrible captain. That is the worst of the pain I live with daily, the awful mystery that feeds the devil in my heart.
I hope that you don’t keep anger towards me for being absent in your childhood. The Tigeans did such a good job raising you and know that I am very proud of all that you are. You mother is too, whever her soul lies.
With love,
Heinrich
Shni of the Lyssai
Posted in Orsolon on February 9, 2011 by coyoteandthunderIn the stony landlocked wastelands to the Northeast, almost a thousand miles from the cultural Orsolon hub of Fahrib, are the bleak, well protected Canyons of Lodo Shyan. In this almost impenetrable terrain hides an unassuming, long-forgotten people who choose attunement over progress. These halflings known as the Lyssai have kept to themselves, and their deeply monastic traditions, for almost fifteen hundred years. Their ability to defend themselves from the roving dwarven barbarians and encroaching goblin hordes has stemmed from their careful, patient and pacifistic study of the original power of the Bonatian Circle, using no invasive magic or even weapons.
The high priest of Lodo Shyan came slowly to sense a need in the West, a purpose, and felt the Lyssai must at long last reach out. Where some leaders with this sense may have sent a diplomatic party, or even an army, he called upon Shni, a young monk student, to go forth to the lands of the seas. As he anointed Shni’s shoulders with the traditional markings of power, he assured his wary pupil that he would recognize his purpose when he came across it.
